The snow was gone again. All that was left was a tiny tiny patch in the back yard under the trees that never gets sun. It was the size of a football. And then it rained all day yesterday and I though – This will make it so green, the plants need rain – and then it got colder and colder and kept raining and raining and the rain turned to sleet and the sleet turned to snow and this morning it’s a whole other world. Does anyone else feel like we’re going backwards?
And just yesterday, my mom asked if we were getting anymore snow and I said I hope not, it’s warm now and I see my bulbs sprouting.
Pat put the shovel away and his boots. We are so anxious and ready for Spring. Winter is playing tricks again.

Isn’t it the assignment of the trickster to keep us from self-delusion? The weather pendulum may not swing as widely here but it seems every other day we are seduced into thinking warmer times have come. If only wanting something gone would make it leave. Ohio friends swear winter lasts about 8 months; this year that seems true for more of the country. Hope you kept that bag of California sunshine for times such as this. xo

The trickster wouldn’t be called a trickster, I suppose! I hadn’t thought of it as a seduction before, but it is a sort of seduction. Weather certainly is a woman – I believe that. Except wind – for some reason wind seems very masculine to me. Winter is usually long and then summer makes you forget just how long it is, but I think this winter especially we’ve gotten so much more snow and cold. This is the 4th year I’ve lived here and never been so deep in a winter before. The sun is nice, at least today there is sun. Maybe that’s all we can hope for in March – the sun!
I think my California sunshine only lasted a few days, but the memory is still warm and I have pictures.
