I recorded this in 2008 – how old was I 24? I wrote a lot of music when I was living in Texas. My life existed at night. I would wake up at noon and go to sleep at 4am just in time for the birds to help me to sleep. This was a very lonely time in my life. I had just graduated from college, left my love, my friends, my home and wound up in a place I had never heard of before. I had a guitar, which I couldn’t and still can’t play very well, but I knew a few chords and I watched my brother and dad play. I remember my brother teaching me the “easy version” of “Free Falling,” by Tom Petty. I wrote this in 2006 when I was 22. I didn’t record it until 2008 when, at the time I was living in Pennsylvania. Pat was with me again after 3 years of living apart. It’s just a song – a gritty song recorded with lots of feedback and some subpar guitar playing (forgive me for that), but it’s a song that reminds me of where I was and where a part of me still is. I haven’t listened to this in a looooong time. Fuck it. Here goes. Just make sure your volume is already a bit low – it’s a little rough. =)

There is no such thing as too much talent. Rachel, how great that you shared this – for your own sense of self, of place, of time but especially for us to hear you. Do you still write songs and play? I hope the answer is yes. Very, very cool and demonstrates skills I have always wished for. Keep on rockin. xo

It’s been a while. My computer at home is on the outs and I need to get a new acoustic guitar. But I’m coming around to it again. My dad and brother are amazing musicians. I, of course, need to practice more, but I’m hoping in the future to do more recordings. They are fun for me. Thank you for listening. I’ll try! =) xoxo
